Configuring credentials

The credentials used to login for asset and account discovery of various system activities are configured via Account Default interface in the system. Accounts added in this are stored in the password vault with the same encryption and security of other accounts managed by the vault. For setting the Default Account configuration appropriately, the Asset Type configuration must be done successfully first. This chapter consists of the following:

Adding a new credential

The system allows to configure the following account types for various functions of the applications:

  • System/Default Accounts: These accounts are excluded during every account discovery rule and are not on-boarded in the password vault. Passwords for such accounts are not required for configuration. You may add any number of accounts to the list.

  • Management Accounts: These accounts are used in the system for the Discovery of other accounts and Password Resets of other privileged accounts.

If during discovery job execution management account is found in the Vault, passwords or keys available in the vault will be considered.

To add a new credential, follow the below-recommended steps:

  • Navigate to Configuration on the navigation bar.

  • Click on Account Defaults in the sidebar.

  • Click the + Add Account Defaults button.

  • Provide the following details:

    • Asset Category: Select the category from the drop-down menu to set the norms to make a default account.

    • Asset Type: Select the type from the drop-down menu which comes only after selecting the category option you specified.

    • Account Role: You have to choose from Default/Management account access according to what you need to handle.

    • Username: Specify the username you have provided.

    • Password: Specify the password for the account. This specification is only needed in the case of a Management account.

    • Domain : Specify the domain name if any.

  • Click Save and your default account is defined.

Editing an existing credential

To edit an already added credential, follow the below-recommended steps:

  • Navigate to Configuration on the navigation bar.

  • Click on Account Default in the sidebar.

  • Select username from the list which already exists to edit.

  • Make the necessary changes you want to.

  • Click Update and your default account will be updated with new entries or changes you made.
