Raising a request
You may raise a request for a password checkout (of an account) or to gain direct access to the target asset. This section also highlights viewing request logs and pending requests. Suppose you want to checkout a password of an account or require access to an asset to perform a specific task. You can raise a request to do that. This ensures limited and controlled access, thereby dismissing any unnecessary privileges given to users. This section includes the following:
Understanding the request interface
The following table includes the various actions in the requests view with their purposes:
Action | Purpose |

Request ID | System generated ID for each request raised. |
Type | Request type - could be a password request or access request. |
Requested by | User who has raised the request. |
Requested on | The date and time when the request was raised. |
Comment | Description of why the request was raised. |
Ticket no | User-defined text or number or combination of both. |
Current status | Status of the request. |
Terminate | Click on the icon to terminate the request. |
Raising a request for a password
Login to Sectona PAM with your username and password.
Select the instance you wish to work on from the instance drop-down list at the top of the navigation bar.
Go to the Request tab.
Click on the Action button and select "New Request."
The workflow request window appears. Choose the type of request as Password for the desired target asset category and type.
A list of target assets corresponding to the chosen asset category and type will appear.
Click on the desired target asset.
Enter the Start On date, Duration, Comment, and Ticket number.
After clicking on Submit, the request will appear under the Request tab with the type Password.
You can also check the request details and the authorized approver by clicking on the request ID.
Once the approver approves the access request, you get your password in plain text or a secure link for password on mail as configured by your admin.
Raising a request for access
Login to Sectona PAM with your username and password.
Select the instance you wish to work on from the instance drop-down list at the top of the navigation bar.
Go to the Request tab.
Click on the Action button and select "New Request."
The workflow request window appears. From the filters displayed choose the type of request as Access for the desired target asset category and type.
A list of target assets corresponding to the chosen asset category and type will appear.
Click on the desired target asset.
- To gain account access for a particular period, enter the Start On and End on date and time.
- To set a time, select the Any option or enter the required values in the Schedule Time fields.
- Note: You get account access based on the date and time you entered in the Start On and End On field. Once the requested time is over, you cannot access the account, and the requested account will be removed from the My Access list.
Select the Access mode as Once for taking one-time access to an asset.
Select the Access mode as Multiple for taking access more than once in the specified duration.
- Enter the Duration for access, Comment, and Ticket Number.
After clicking on Submit, the request will appear under the Request tab with the type Access.
You can also check the request details and the authorized approver by clicking on the request ID.
